Horlivka (Ukrainian: Горлівка Ukrainian pronunciation: [ˈɦɔrliu̯kɑ]); known generally as Gorlovka (Russian: Горловка) while a part of the Soviet Union, is a city in the Donetsk Oblast (province) of eastern Ukraine. As of 2001, the city's population was 292,000. It is a coal mining and chemical industry centre. The Horlivka State Pedagogical Institute of Foreign Languages has a two building campus in the center of town.
