Guararapes is also the name of a location in Pernambuco which was of strategic importance in the Dutch–Portuguese War of the 17th Century, being the site of the First Battle of Guararapes (1648) and the Second Battle of Guararapes (1649) through which Dutch occupation in Brazil was terminated.
