Doncaster (/ˈdɒŋkæstə/, /ˈdɒŋkəstə/, /ˈdɒŋkɑːstə/ or /ˈdɒnkɑːstə/, Old English: Donne ceaster) is a town in South Yorkshire, England. Together with its surrounding suburbs and settlements, the town forms part of the Metropolitan Borough of Doncaster, which had a population of 302,400 at the 2011 census. However the Town itself has a population of 127,851. The town is about 20 miles (32 km) from Sheffield and 25 miles (40 km) from York, and is served by an international airport, Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield, based in Finningley.
