Asyut or Assiut (Egyptian Arabic: أسيوط Asyūṭ , IPA: [ʔɑsˈjuːtˤ]) is the capital of the modern Asyut Governorate in Egypt; the ancient city of the same name is situated nearby. The modern city is located at 27°11′00″N 31°10′00″E / 27.18333°N 31.16667°E, while the ancient city is located at 27°10′00″N 31°08′00″E / 27.16667°N 31.13333°E.
